This event at Heavenly Acres for kids first started around 1980 at the Western Stock Show. The child is seated on the sheep and when the sheep begins to run it tries to get the child off. Usual times are from 6-8 seconds. This is an introductory event that allows children to learn about rough stock. Children wear helmets and the rough and tumble nature of the event is compared to youth football. Thousands of youngsters participate in this event across the country every year.
There is a weight limit of 55 lbs and most children fall off before 8 seconds. This is a fun event with no real set of rules except to have fun and build confidence. The sheep can handle the weight and are not hurt in the process. They always get the child off as quickly as possible and no spurs are allowed.
